Introducing Gyro Groove |
|
Gyro Groove was established 2006. Having worked with each
other in various
other bands, this group was formed out of a unified desire
to create great music. Drawing inspiration from the likes of James Brown,
Marvin Gaye, Prince and Herbie Hancock; this dynamic and funky quartet has
developed a fantastic repertoire of funk, soul and groove based music
ranging from the classic pop and jazz standards to contemporary grooves and
originals.

Gyro Groove draws on a wealth of talent and experience.
Whilst all four musicians are virtuosi in their own right, they have
developed a coherent and sympathetic style that is both engaging and
entertaining for the listener. In addition to having the ability to
entertain a crowd in their own right, they have equal skill at providing the
perfect background music for any social occasion. This is evident from the
positive feedback that the band has received after their performances.

Bandleader: Rory Clark |

Rory
began playing piano when he
was eleven years old. He initially studied jazz piano for two years before
honing his technique studying both classical and jazz piano concurrently.
Since then he has gone on to further study with high-profile musicians such
as Mark Fitzgibbon, Kevin Hunt (Don Burrow ’s pianist) and in New York City
with McCoy Tyner.
Rory began his
professional career as a musician at age fourteen when he began to do duo
gigs with his father Roger who plays alto saxophone. Since then he has
further developed his own unique sound as a musician, performing in a range
of bands and solo gigs at various venues around Melbourne. Furthermore, he
has been invited on several occasions
to appear at high profile festivals such as the Queenscliff Music Festival,
Adelaide Jazz Festival, Paynesville Jazz Festival and The Palmer Street
Festival in Queensland. He has performed internationally (Hong Kong and
Taipei in January of 1997).
Having gained a vast amount of experience
over many years in a multitude of situations, Rory is capable of highly
energetic spontaneity when he performs as well as very controlled subdued
playing. He has developed a reputation as a pianist for his use of rich
harmonic chord structures, melodic ideas and strong time.
